perfect timing… i was having a slow and unproductive monday morning… not feeling very inspired– until my package from kinokuniya arrived with two mina perhonen books. i’m excited to pour over every page later tonight… this might be the most inspiring thing i’ve come across in a long time. thank you so much to mav, for first introducing me to the series, and stella for reminding me to go out and find them.
(photos aren’t great because it’s dark and rainy today)

  1. thanks for the sneak peak into the book. the pages look very inspiring! i’d love to add it to my collection as well…

  2. ooh, looks wonderful! so nice to get that surprise…
    i’m having a slow monday too..

  3. hi. i’ve been trying to get my hands on these books, print and particle, for ages, but all the websites are in japanses. how did you order them?

  4. I got the Mina Perhonen books at Kinokuniya in NY. I couldn’t figure out how to use their website, so I went in and ordered them through the store (they didn’t have them in stock, but sent them from Japan, no shipping charges). When you go in, bring a print out of the Mina Perhonen books from the website, because they weren’t able to search their system in English and needed the title in Japanese.

    If you’re not near a Kinokuniya store, you could try yesasia.com. I think you can order them there, and the website is easy to navigate. Good luck!

  5. thank you for posting some images from this book! i’ve tried to order the whole set but could only get a hold of the embroidery one so far.

    the first time i heard about minagawa was in an old IdN mag. it was a great pattern-making issue featuring hanna werning and marimekko as well as an interesting interview with minagawa! if you haven’t seen it you should check it out!

    there’s also a video of minagawa on youtube. i don’t speak japanese though so i have no clue what they’re saying, but still it’s nice to see the face behind the work. :}
