i have a new obsession… making patterns with sunprint paper. it’s such a good excersize in pattern design, because once you take the paper out of the light protective sleeve, it starts to fade and your time is limited. all of these were made with leaves. i’ve been doing this all morning…

the giant robot store in new york is celebrating it’s year anniversary with a show called smitten! featuring work by albert reyes, andrew jeffrey wright, brian ralph, calef brown, christopher silas neal, deth p. sun, evah fan, jack long, jen corace, and kelly lynn jones.

i finally opened the latest vanity fair, and enjoyed the story on sofia coppola. i’ve always liked reading about her work process and what inspires her. i’m looking forward to seeing marie antoinette…
erika somogyi makes incredibly colorful, mesmerizing paintings. they feel like explosions of pattern, and color, and light to me. and she’s a fellow member of the society for the advancement of people loving independently nurtured goods (saplings)!

the new york times magazine seemed to have a focus on california artists this past weekend– with one story on ted vadakan and angie myung of poketo, and another on painter/photographer/sculptor/film director/record label founder thomas campbell. photo of thomas campbell’s studio, from nytimes.com.
i finally bought issue 12 of selvedge magazine at purl soho this weekend, and i was excited to discover the work of swedish textile designer petra borner. the textile prints she did for cacharel’s fall 06 line are so wonderful– and i love, love her embroidery work. she also designs a line of women’s clothes & accessories called rosetta, with designer tove johannson.
