i was recently sent a new great book: mastering the art of printing and design; techniques, tutorials, and inspiration by laurie wisbrun. the book is large and very thorough– it covers many methods of fabric printing, both by hand and professional. there are instructions for using computer programs like illustrator and photoshop to create patterns, and interviews with inspiring textile artists like julia rothman, kerry cassill, heather moore, and heather ross.  very appropriately, the cover of the book is wrapped with digitally printed fabric.

  1. Strangely I found you thru this book while I was checking it on Amazon, your book came as a suggested read,So I bought yours first.I have always been intrigued by textile printing,My mom had a small studio where she made hand waxed, free hand design batik on Indian silk and polished cotton and hand tied tie-dye.She used all vegetable dyes.I am hoping to do something similar,my heart is set on block printing though! If I ever make a piece Lena I will send you atleast a picture!I cannot wait to read your book! Many thanks and good luck!!
PS I read the Martha stewart living article on flowers when I got the issue so nice to see you there!!!

  2. Ah! I was just debating the other day about whether or not to get this book [on amazon] or “A Field Guide to Fabric Design” <- approaching fabric companies with my designs right now… I figure I have a ton ton tonnny ton more to learn :] …which led me to get the latter… so I am excited to see your post and perhaps in a couple of months I can get that book. 🙂 xo

  4. I remember how much fun I had with screen printing and tie-dying as a kid. This would be right up my alley. However, it would give me an excuse to buy more fabric and I’ve promised myself I won’t do that until I use up what I have:)
