i did an illustration for a story on the history of the cheap dress on the etsy blog. it’s a great article about the changes in cost of clothing during the last hundred years and how we have traded quality for quantity. the writer, elizabeth cline, has a book coming out on the subject next spring.

These illustrations are great. The article is interesting; I would be interested in reading the book to get a more indepth look. I am in the process buying no clothes in 2011. I had to buy 1 pair of black pants for work but I am hoping that will be all for the year.

Really cute illustration! So interesting that despite the cost of a dress plummeting, the amount we spend on clothes has actually increased. While at one point i dreamed of sewing for a living, I won't even bother sewing custom made clothing for people anymore because of the distorted view of how much a dress should cost, and the amount of time that goes into making it.
