i’m looking for straws made of a natural material for a project, and i came across these straw straws from muji that are perfect, but i can’t find them for sale! has anyone seen them in a store, or something similar?

  1. The Muji straws won a design competition last year and have yet to hit stores. I`ll see if I can find out if there is a release date!

  2. thank you all!
i need to be able to cut them, so the bamboo ones won't really work… and i love the striped ones, but i'm not sure they would be quite right… and i don't want them to be white. argh! if only those muji ones were available…

  3. We have them here before Christmas, because crafting stars and figurines from them is a traditional pastime here.

They're very affordable and have that nice 'natural' look. If I can help you in any way, let me know.

  4. Lena,
I used actual straw from the dried flower store (Dry Nature Designs) and used the stems. They worked great. They are hollow like drinking straws. Ben had some kind of cutters that would snip them without crushing them.

  5. Hi,Lena!

    This is Yasushi from Japan.
Now I am an art student in Finland.
I was just seeing your blog and found this article.

Then I have already asked Muji about this product by email.
They answered that at the moment they have no plan to make it as a product and no plan to sell it as a commodity.
Actutally straw was used as "straw" in Japan untill 1960s.
The cafe of "ghibli museum"has used it since at least 7 years before.

So it would be easy for us to pick straw from nature ,to cutit and to use it as straw according to the history of straw.
I think that we should be surprised that all the judges of Muji didn't know the history of it and felt that it's new as we felt.

I hope you will find the solution ot it.

  6. hi yasushi,
