too busy to post much lately... too busy to even look around and be inspired! all i'm doing is work, work, work... but exciting work... & it's good to be busy.

i found the link to photographer kanako sasaki's website via foxntheshow... and i really enjoyed looking through her work-- most of which has girls in dresses as the subject matter... foxnthesnow has a great sidebar of fashion links, including lots of my favorites, and some that were new to me.

"angry flowers" printed fabric by karen gelardi... just beautiful! and in my favorite color too...

my new favorite book is olle eskell, swedish graphic designer. i'm so inspired by his work, the shapes, the colors... i bought the book at park life, in san francisco. more photos here...

i was so excited that my trip to san francisco coincided with the ruth asawa exhibit at the de young museum. i've been interested in ruth's work for a while, but it's hard to find much about her on the internet. sadly, ruth's work has not always been given the attention that i think it deserves. some art critics considered her technique a craft and not an art form, because of it's similarity to knitting and crocheting. i found her retrospective to be so inspiring, not only her gorgeous sculptures, but her study of repeat patterns while she attended the black mountain college. all photos are from the scuptures of ruth asawa, contours in the air. more here.

new online gallery shop, andyland, sells affordable contemporary art from scandinavian illustrators and photographers. i was excited to see the work of a favorite of mine: photographer louise enhorning, available to purchase. thanks alexandra and ulrika.

ohhh tsumori chisato... for someone fabric obsessed like me, these photos from surface to air are heavenly. i'm in love with them all, as i am with tsumori chisato's prints in general. i can't stare at them enough...

little otsu goodies, from my visit there in december... top: otsu bookmark, middle: card by rachell sumpter, bottom: cards by ayumi piland

also new from karen walker-- her line for swanndri, which "is inspired by a weekend away at the lake. imagery of smooth, reflective water, lake houses, pumice, reeds, overhanging trees, swans, kayaks and wooden lake boats have been drawn on to create the design and feel of the range". above: photo of the swanndri store in wellington city, new zealand.

new zealand designer karen walker has one of the best websites-- i love her animated illustrations... and i love the new photos for her jewelry line (via seamsters, thanks!)
i just received two of the best little packages in my mailbox, from trades i did with camilla engman, and tokio of klala. camilla sent me a bundle of gorgeous cards-- including the limited edition prints made by port2port. i love them! and the package from klala was filled with goodies from (one of my favorite textile companies!) mina perhonen, where tokio's wife works. ohhh, ahhh... such a treat.

i haven't heard the final count of the amount raised by the kim family auction, but lisa posted that it's over $15,000, which is so wonderful! i'm honored to be a part of another fundraiser: the design*sponge student scholarship. here are some photos of the pillows i've donated to grace's exciting project, for sale in the d*s shop.

my first post a year ago, was of christmas presents/art pieces from karen (who is a family friend, and the most amazing present-giver)-- here are some of the beauties from this year. (i mailed most of my presents and other goodies from my sf trip, so i'll be posting photos of what was inside some of these packages when my boxes get here...)
reminder!
