i loved the kerry cassill pillow featured in the latest issue of domino. i visited her website a while back, and just did again. I liked seeing her new patterns, they're brighter and bolder than her previous work. i love the summery colors!
i'm obsessed with japanese stores that are obsessed with scandinavian housewares... like klala & flaska online
coloring book by becky suss at sodafine! it reminds me of san francisco houses on a hill--
really wonderful felt flowers by mackenzie. i love the color!
i liked the story in this month's living on bleaching and over dyeing fabrics. i love seeing how much bleaching can change the colors and look of a print. i'd really like to experiment more with bleaching...
i first saw bjorn wiinblad's ceramics in a japanese book on collecting. his plates and platters are covered in children's book-like illustrations, and his funny ceramic statues seem to have been inspiration for jonathan adler.
yesterday i was looking through raul's photoblog mexican pictures, and i was captivated by these photos from his motorcycle trip through vietnam. i just love the layers and layers of patterns- and despite the creepiness of these tents being set up for ho chi minh's birthday, i would love to have a birthday tent this colorful and celebratory.
thanks karin, for the link to textile designer jenny bergman. i've always loved single color prints, and i really like the way she mixes them with text. ohhh, and i'm very inspired to do some berry dyeing...
it's funny that i would discover brooklyn based artist eddie martinez by reading the scandinazian magazine plaza. i love the mixing patterns and colors he uses. (thanks carolyn!)
this might make me sound a little strange... but the other day i sat and watched a snail in my back yard for about 15 minutes. it was so beautiful & graceful... & mesmerizing. like this snail plate by hella jongerius.
watercolor sketches by textile designer paule marrot, from world of interiors may 2006
i bought this great book: russian children's picture books in the 1920's & 1930's (japanese publisher) at giant robot sf. i love the images and colors. i just wish they were bigger, it's hard to see the details.
i love the graphics and textiles (and website!) of raeburn ink... i first saw the printed t-shirts from the cellular collection at cal patch's (since closed) wonderful shop patch 155. recently i've had the pleasure of meeting raeburn ink designer jennifer cooke... so glad our paths have crossed!
cosmetics from paul & joe. i love the packaging.
i'm constantly inspired by sarah of the small object and her craft projects. i was at the hardware store a few days ago and saw a wood burning tool-- and it reminded me of the wood burning kit i had when i was kid, and how much i liked making signs and plaques with it... i had the urge to buy one again and wondered what i could use it for. i LOVE sarah's cutting board adornment, and as usual her attention to detail is super inspiring!
thanks oh joy!, for introducing me to the work of steven harrington. i'm inspired by his gucco prints!
i keep seeing write-ups about this exhibit... can't wait to go...
i'm looking forward to checking out purl patchwork, the new fabric store next to purl soho
virginia johnson is a textile designer and illustrator whose work i've followed since i first saw her resort line in stores a few years ago. her textiles and illustrations can be seen on her website & on the art department site. i think the top illustration is from the kate spade books she illustrated- i love it.
